Board Position Overview
Members of the Board of Directors work selflessly and humbly with one another and with the Administrator. They meet regularly to manage the affairs of Sharon House Corporation, ensuring that it is fulfilling both its mission and its responsibilities under the law.
Responsibilities
- Share the vision of Sharon House as it is currently
unfolding
- Willing to actively support the Sustaining Donor
Campaign
- Able to work constructively with the administrator,
staff and other board members
- Must have access to e-mail, and be actively engaged in
discussions by e-mail with other board members between
meetings
- Attend monthly board meetings held in the evening at
Sharon House and support Sharon House functions
- Be accessible for conference calls in between meetings
if required
- Take an active role in putting on the Annual General
Meeting, usually held in April
- Prayerfully support the work of the board, administrator
and staff of Sharon House
- Abide lovingly by the decision of the majority when
a course of action has been voted on
- Must hold all information regarding ongoing issues in
strict confidence
- Must be willing to take an active part in publishing
our activities through newsletters, visits to the field
when possible, and one on one conversations with members
- Willing to take some related seminars to strengthen
board skills
- Willing to learn some legal jargon, and deal with
contracts
- Although financial background not required, minimum
requirement would be ability to read and understand
financial statements (training provided)
- Ability to write a letter, take minutes, and
proof-read are all assets though not requirements
- Be willing to hold some portfolio as a director, if not
an officer
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have:
- Mother Church and active branch church
membership, and Christian Science class instruction
- a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice and
be able to take a consistently metaphysical approach to the
demands of the board
- a willingness to learn new things and work humbly and
unselfishly for Christian Science nursing
- a willingness to put personal sense aside to work together
as a team
- a willingness to grapple with tough issues lovingly and
impersonally
- ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail software
or be willing to learn
